You start the day forward with the infantry or scouts, checking your laser rangefinder, radios, and target-locating gear before moving out on patrol. Your job is to observe the battlefield, identify targets, and call for fire, relaying precise grids and adjustments to the artillery and close air support overhead. Much of your time is spent building fire support plans, rehearsing calls for fire, and coordinating the shooters so rounds arrive right where the ground commander needs them.
